Too Long Gone

Sorry for the long absence. Many of you know that my husband passed away near the end of September. I want to thank all of you that prayed (and are still praying) for the kids and me and sent some lovely messages to me through my sister's blog. The kids and I are doing alright, we miss Tim terribly, but we're taking care of one another. Christmas was difficult, but family and friends have helped a lot (and keeping busy doesn't hurt any either).

I haven't done a lot of knitting in the past few months, but I do have a little to show. The first is a hat I knit to put in the "Holiday Giving Barrel" at work. It's a simple 2X2 rib hat knit it red speckle WoolEase. I hope it will keep some child warm this winter.

Next is the same pattern knit in a grey WoolEase for son (I put it in his stocking). He loves it!

I also knit a pair of ankle socks for him...Cascade 220 Superwash.
Also given for Christmas.

I knit (well started anyway) two pair of fingerless mitts. One pair I actually got to the thumbs, the other only one cuff is done. Both knit in Cascade 220 Superwash (red and pink).

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas and New Year. I'm praying that this year will be a lot better for my family and every ones (we are ready for good things to happen to us).
I hope to blog and knit more this year.
God Bless.

Hi Karen. I'm glad you and the kids are pulling together to get through the loss of Tim. What a terrible loss. I love all your knit projects. Your son will certainly have some nice warm feet this winter.

It's so good to see you back, Karen. I never know what to say when someone's experienced such a huge loss as you have. It sounds like you have a strong family and faith, which are two things that will get you through, but I'm sure not without a lot of sadness along the way still.

I'm glad to see you're knitting. I remember reading that Meg Swanson said that the only time she couldn't knit was after losing her husband so suddenly as she did also. When she began knitting again, she felt that she was beginning to heal.

Karen my thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. Being together without your husband must be very hard. My BIL is going through the same loss as are my niece and nephew but they take each day as it comes. I do hope that his wonderful memories in your life will help heal the hurt one day and make it a little easier but I am sure at the moment it is very hard for you all. I am glad that you have your knitting to help you through some of it too.

Welcome back to blogging, Karen. Christmas wasn't too difficult for me, though it was the first without my Dad. It was definitely not the same though! On Monday (the day before my birthday) it will be exactly 5 months since he died, and I still miss him too. It's even hard getting funny emails from people because my first instinct is "Dad will love this. Gotta send it to him."

I know it's not the same losing a parent as it is losing a spouse, but the pain is very real in both situations. It's a day by day thing I guess, and even though I'm told the pain goes away, I know I'll always miss him.

Hope you guys are all holding onto God's hand throughout this all!
